Small steps today. A more prepared tomorrow.
Understand the cost, requirements and repayments.
A shared goal. Everyone’s contribution.
Plan your working capital and cash flow.
The guides below help you prepare. Available accounts, fees, interest rates, security and eligibility must be confirmed with the SACCO.
GUIDANCE FOR YOUR GOAL
Choose your situation for preparation ideas and questions to ask. This is a planning guide; the SACCO confirms its services and requirements.
Start with the crop, area and when you need cash. Plan when sales will turn into money, rather than relying only on the harvest you expect.
For a shop, market stall or small workshop, money for stock serves a different purpose from money for a long-lived machine. Explain the need clearly.
Give your goal a name and a date: school costs, a work tool or money for unexpected needs.
A group or savings circle needs agreement on contributions, who manages them and how members review the balance.
Savings & accounts
Think about your goal, when you need the money and what you can set aside.
Ask about documents, membership contributions, minimum balances and deposit or withdrawal charges.
Confirm when you can access savings and how any interest is calculated.
Loans
Prepare your project budget and identify the income that will cover repayments.
Request the rate, calculation method, all charges and repayment schedule in writing.
A request prepared here is not loan approval. The SACCO carries out its own assessment and decision.
Groups & savings circles
Agree on contributions, representatives and authorised signatories.
Keep membership, contribution and decision records.
Ask the SACCO which group accounts are available and what documents are required.
Business & farming
Record expected sales, input costs and when cash will arrive.
Separate household and business money and allow for unexpected costs.
Ask whether available repayment options suit your harvest or sales cycle.
BEFORE YOU AGREE
Ask for a written explanation. The interest rate alone does not show everything you will pay.
